Erwann François

I work on GeoCloud, Hexagon's cloud platform for survey and 3D data. I ship features end to end in React, TypeScript and GraphQL, many of them built on custom 3D libraries.

Most of my time is spent between design and development. I help developers with UI details and help designers make UI/UX decisions and explain them to the team. I also sometimes pick up Figma myself when the design team needs extra hands.

On top of that, I now run Frontend project management for a team of 10: capacity planning, estimates, backlog and releases.

For six years I worked with my own clients, on my own from first spec to release. I designed in Figma, then built solutions and delivered them.

It wasn't only code. I designed websites and brand identities, drew custom typefaces for display use, and coached people who wanted to go freelance in their own field.

This is where design and engineering became one job for me.

I built the internal platform used by more than 1,000 consultants across the company, working directly with the people who would use it. It ended up cutting costs significantly for the company.

I soon became the project's main Engineer and its Scrum Master. I tracked progress, made feature decisions, trained the team in Vue.js and ran our agile rituals.

I also ran technical interviews for new hires and coached a colleague starting a C# WPF mission.

My first engineering role, building internal software for a leader in Aerospace and Defense. I led most projects on my own, from the first user interviews to the final presentation to stakeholders.

The tools I built reached more than 10,000 people and save over 100 hours a year. One desktop app, compliant with the AMS2750 heat-treatment standard, saves €100,000 a year. That's where I learned that the best software starts with listening to the people who'll use it and started liking UI & UX.
